When people see a finished fashion collection, they often admire the beautiful garments, the runway presentation, or the campaign imagery. What they rarely see are the countless hours of research, creative exploration, sketching, fabric selection, and thoughtful decision making that take place long before the first garment is ever produced. For me, fashion has never been simply about creating beautiful clothing. It has always been about storytelling. Every collection I design begins with a purpose, an emotion, or a message I want to share with the world. Inspiration can come from almost anywhere, a striking piece of architecture, an inspiring artwork, a meaningful conversation, cultures I have experienced, places I have visited, or the resilience and strength of women whose stories deserve to be celebrated. These moments become the creative foundation from which every collection grows.

One of the biggest misconceptions about fashion design is that it begins with sketching garments. In reality, sketching comes much later. Professional fashion designers spend considerable time researching trends, understanding their target customer, gathering visual inspiration, creating mood boards, selecting colour palettes, sourcing fabrics, and defining the story behind the collection. Every creative decision should support one clear vision. When each garment contributes to the same narrative, the collection becomes cohesive, authentic, and memorable.

Throughout my career as both a fashion designer and fashion educator, one question has remained constant, "Where do I start?" The truth is that creativity can feel overwhelming when you have hundreds of ideas but no clear direction. Having a structured design process does not restrict creativity, it strengthens it. It gives ideas the space to evolve, connect, and grow into something far more meaningful than they might have become on their own.

As the founder of a.nty story, I believe every collection should be created with intention. Every print begins as original artwork. Every silhouette is carefully refined. Every fabric is selected for a purpose. Rather than chasing fast moving trends, I focus on designing timeless fashion that celebrates identity, individuality, and the stories we choose to carry. My hope is that every woman who wears a.nty story feels confident, empowered, and inspired to express herself authentically.

This passion for sharing the creative process is also what inspired me to create the Fashion Designer Notebook. I wanted to create more than just a sketchbook. I wanted to develop a practical companion that guides aspiring designers through the same collection development process used throughout the fashion industry. One of the greatest lessons I have learned throughout my creative journey is that successful design is not about waiting for the perfect idea, it is about taking the first step. Some of my strongest collections have emerged through experimentation, reflection, and allowing ideas to evolve naturally over time. Every sketch, every page of notes, every fabric swatch, every colour palette, and every mood board becomes part of the final story.
