Building a Brand as a Single Mum

People often see the finished product, the beautiful garments, the photoshoots, the fashion campaigns, or the growing brand. What they rarely see are the ordinary moments that happen behind the scenes, the early mornings, the late nights, the school runs, the packing of online orders, the endless emails, and the quiet moments of self doubt that every small business owner experiences.

Building a.nty story as a single mum has been one of the most challenging and rewarding journeys of my life. It hasn't been about achieving perfection or reaching success overnight. It has been about showing up every day, even when life feels overwhelming, and continuing to believe in a dream that is bigger than myself.

Like many mothers, my day doesn't begin in the studio. It begins with making breakfast, getting the kids ready for school, organising lunches, and making sure everyone is where they need to be. Once the school run is finished, I step into another role, founder, fashion designer, creative director, marketer, customer service, photographer, and sometimes even the person carefully wrapping every order by hand before it leaves the studio.

There are many nights when the house is finally quiet and everyone is asleep. Those are often the hours when the real work begins. I sketch new collections, create fashion illustrations, answer customer enquiries, plan marketing campaigns, update the website, and prepare for the next day. Building a fashion brand isn't always glamorous. More often, it is built through consistency, resilience, and countless unseen hours of work.

Of course, there have been moments of uncertainty. Moments when I questioned whether I was good enough, whether I had started too late, or whether everything I was working towards would ever become what I imagined. Self doubt is something many entrepreneurs experience, especially when they are building a business while raising a family. But I have learned that courage isn't the absence of doubt, it's choosing to continue despite it.

One of the greatest gifts of this journey has been showing my children what perseverance looks like. They see that dreams require commitment, patience, and hard work. They see that success is not measured only by achievements, but by having the courage to keep going, even when the path feels uncertain. That lesson is something I hope stays with them long after they have grown.
Every collection I create tells a story, but behind every collection is another story, the story of resilience, determination, and beginning again. That is the heart of a.nty story. It is more than an Australian fashion label. It is a reminder that our experiences shape us, our challenges strengthen us, and our stories deserve to be shared.
